Write Three Questions Before You Go
Look at the museum's site together and jot down three simple questions in a notebook: which dinosaur do you want to see, how big was it, what color were its actual bones. These questions become a natural focus during the visit, and kids look at the exhibits much more closely as a result.

Prep Stickers for Real, Cast, and Reconstructed Fossils
Set up a color code beforehand β red for original fossils, yellow for casts, blue for reconstructions. Reading each label on-site and marking the matching color in the notebook turns a scientific classification concept into something closer to a game.

Read and Record Exhibit Labels
Labels usually list the discovery location, era, size, and lifestyle. Have the child copy down one or two key sentences by hand. Reading, remembering, and writing in one motion is one of the most effective ways to learn.

Sketch a Size Comparison
Photograph the dinosaur's full-length outline, often marked on the museum floor, and compare it to your own height or a friend's once you're home. A concrete comparison like 'a T. rex is as long as our whole classroom' makes the scale actually register.
