From Songjeong to Sotae, choosing one or two stations that match your purpose beats trying to cover the whole line.
Gwangju's Line 1 runs from Pyeongdong and Gwangju Songjeong Station through the Sangmu district, Yangdong Market, and Geumnam-ro to the Asia Culture Center and on to Sotae. Rather than trying to ride the entire line, it's smarter to pick one or two stations that match today's purpose โ an exhibition at the Kim Dae-jung Convention Center, the history at May 18th Memorial Park, a stroll around Uncheon Reservoir, food at Yangdong Market, a film at Gwangju Theater, or a program at the ACC. This list gathers ten real spots you can actually reach without a car.
Even when a station shares a name with your destination, the exit you take can change your walking distance dramatically. Markets mean more bags to carry, and parks mean more walking, so it helps to plan your visit order ahead of time. The Convention Center and ACC can get crowded on event days, and the Sangmu-Geumnam-ro stretch fills up during rush hour, so check your transit card balance and last-train time, and keep your route simple: finish your business at one station, then get back on.
