Checking the Crown Before Water Exposure
Standard crowns and screw-down crowns close differently, so before getting the watch wet, confirm which type yours is and that it's properly secured. A crown left half-pushed or not fully screwed down can let water in regardless of the rating printed on the case.

Never Adjusting the Crown or Pushers Underwater
Unless the manufacturer explicitly allows it, as with some dive watches, any crown pull or pusher press should happen out of the water. Doing it underwater creates a momentary gap in the seal that can defeat the water resistance entirely.
