June 2026: The Night Venus, Jupiter, Mercury, and the Moon Shared One Sky

This is a record of June 2026's monthly sky events as published by the Korea Astronomy and Space Science Institute (KASI). The dates themselves are behind us now, but the method carries forward: scouting a viewing spot ahead of a stretch when several bright planets and the moon line up, or using the Summer Triangle to bootstrap your way to the rest of the constellations, works the same way every month and every year.
All dates and times below come straight from KASI's published figures. Next time a similar planetary conjunction or grouping comes around, use the same approach β lock down a spot with an open western or southern horizon first, then target the short window right after sunset.
From the evening of June 16 through around 8:30 p.m. on June 18, 2026, Venus, Jupiter, Mercury, and the Moon all appeared in the evening sky together. Venus and Jupiter are bright enough for beginners to tell apart easily, and having the Moon nearby gives you a reference point that makes identifying the planets much easier. Mercury, though, sits low near the sun and only shows briefly, so the real trick is an open western horizon and a narrow window right after sunset.

The Summer Triangle in June
The Summer Triangle isn't a constellation, but it's the single most reliable guide to reading the sky from June onward. Find the brightest star, Vega, first, then trace down to Deneb and Altair to rough in the positions of Lyra, Cygnus, and Aquila all at once. All three stars hold up reasonably well against city lights, so once you've got this triangle down, expanding out to the Milky Way and nearby nebulae and clusters gets much easier.

Scorpius and Antares in June
Scorpius is the signature constellation of the summer southern sky, but in Korea it hangs low near the horizon, so buildings and hills in dense areas easily block parts of it. Find red-glowing Antares first, and it becomes the anchor for tracing out the curling tail. Since it sits close to the galactic core, binoculars reveal a much richer star field on clear nights with an open southern view.

The Hercules globular cluster M13
M13, the signature globular cluster of the northern summer sky, is hard to locate with the naked eye, but anchoring on the trapezoid-shaped core of Hercules and pointing binoculars or a small telescope there reveals it as a faint, fuzzy patch. It fades under city light pollution, so a suburban or mountain viewing spot works better. Even without the individually resolved stars you'd see in a photograph, the experience of tracking down a cluster of hundreds of thousands of stars yourself is a great stepping stone to the next level of observing.

The Ring Nebula M57 in Lyra
M57, Lyra's signature deep-sky target, looks like a crisp donut in photographs, but through a small telescope it often appears as little more than a small, faint gray ring. The efficient approach is to find Vega first, learn Lyra's small parallelogram, and then narrow your view inward from there. Pick a night with weak moonlight and good atmospheric clarity, and your odds of success go up noticeably.
The Moon changes shape every night, yet remains the most accessible target in the sky. Whenever it's up in the evening from mid-June onward, even basic binoculars are enough to make out the contrast between craters and the dark mare regions. It's brightest near full, but the surface actually reads with more depth around the first or last quarter, when shadows stretch long β making the Moon the safest starting point for beginners or for stargazing with kids.
