Lighthouses, fishing ports, sea caves and sandy beaches along Gyeongju's east coast, split into a Gampo loop and a Yangnam loop.
Gyeongju gets remembered as a city of Silla ruins, but its eastern edge runs a completely different way — lighthouses, working fishing ports, sea caves, and sand beaches strung along the coast. Gampo Port still feels like a working town, and Jeonchon and Najeong alternate between rocky outcrops and beach. This list splits Gampo's core from Yangnam to the south, since covering both in one day makes for a long drive.
From Songdaemal Lighthouse to Eupcheon Port, here are eight real stops along the Gampo–Yangnam coast, in a rough visiting order. Even on a clear day, wave height and wind can shift fast out here, so each entry notes what to check before getting close.
Gampo's core sights — the lighthouse, port, Jeonchon, and Najeong — sit close together and fit in half a day. Adding Yangnam's Gwanseong Pine Beach and Eupcheon Port stretches the drive considerably, so if time is tight, split them across two days.
How close you can get depends on wave height, tide, and whatever access restrictions are posted that day. If the area is closed off, view it from a safe distance rather than pushing past the barrier.
Rules on camping and cooking vary by beach and season, so check posted signage or the local government's notices first. Areas near breakwaters and fishing facilities are generally working zones best avoided.
