Taoist and Buddhist deities share the incense smoke here, in the temple that best shows the depth of Saigon's Chinese-Vietnamese heritage. Come in the quieter morning, take the altars hall by hall, then drift into the cafe alleys of nearby Da Kao for a half-day route. Before it is a sight, it is a place of prayer: hands off the incense and offerings, shoulders and knees covered, cameras quiet.

History Museum of Ho Chi Minh City
An artifact-driven museum spanning prehistory to the Nguyen dynasty โ southern Vietnam on a much longer timeline than the war. If your itinerary is war-history-heavy, put this first: seeing Cham sculpture and dynastic relics resets your sense that this city's story runs far deeper than 1975. Bach Dang Wharf Park
River breeze, the District 1 skyline on one side and the new city rising across the water โ the natural full stop to a day's route. Walk down from Nguyen Hue, catch the sunset, then board the river bus to watch the city's lights from the water and the evening gains a whole new dimension.
